Wilsonville Memorial Day 2022: Closures, Parades, Memorials, Parking

Government offices will be closed. There will be F-15s in the sky. Parades will be held. Here's a guide to what you need to know.

WILSONVILLE, OR — Memorial Day is here. People will march in parades. People will look up in the sky as F-15 Eagles fly overhead. People will gather for wreath-laying ceremonies. People who work n government offices will be told to stay away from work for the day. Most of all, people will remember.

For the first time since 2019, people will be able to gather in groups.

From the celebration across the river at Fort Vancouver to the Memorial Day Ceremony on the Oregon State Capitol grounds n Salem, there are many options from which to choose.

Before that, a couple of quick reminders:

  • Government offices will be closed (meaning federal, state, county and in many cases local).
  • Portland and many other places will offer free parking.
  • There won't be any mail delivered.
  • Banks will be closed though some branches located in stores may be open.
  • TriMet and C-Tran will both run on Sunday schedules.

Finally, the 142nd Wing of the Portland Air National Guard will send F-15 Eagle fighter jets into the skies above Oregon, doing flyovers about 1,000 feet above the ground at about 400 mph. Bad weather could lead to changes or cancelations..

Here's the schedule:

  • 10:00 a.m. They will fly over Wasco.
  • 10:10 a.m. They will fly over the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
  • 10:17 a.m. They will fly over Salem.
  • 10:30 a.m. They will fly over Reedsport.
  • 10:55 a.m. They will fly over Astoria.
  • 11:06 a.m. They will fly over Beaverton.

142nd Wing Commander, Colonel Todd Hofford said that the flyovers "are a way for us to pay tribute to American patriots who paid the ultimate sacrifice and their families. The flights are also a public salute to our local communities whom we appreciate and respect, for their support of our Airmen and all those serving throughout our nation.

"It is an honor to protect and defend the Pacific Northwest and the freedoms which allow us to spend time with our loved ones on this National Holiday."
