Adoptions From The Heart Hosts Transracial Adoption Event

Adoptions From The Heart has announced a new educational Heart-to-Heart event.

Adoptions From The Heart has announced a new educational Heart-to-Heart event. It will take place via Zoom and Facebook Live from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 22. This event will focus on transracial adoption voices.

The Heart-to-Heart will be a conversation between four birth parents who placed children in transracial families and one transracial adoptee. Attendance is open to the public.

Multiple topics surrounding transracial adoption will be discussed at the event. AFTH hopes to highlight the importance of education and cultural competence in transracial adoption. The attendees will also discuss how transracial adoption impacts cultural identity and navigating some of the stereotypes birth parents and adoptees experience in transracial adoption.

The event is a fundraiser. Attendance is free, but guests can choose to donate up to $500. All the money raised will go to AFTH programs and services.

AFTH also offers a support group for transracial families. This support group meets once a month and serves to help and educate those impacted by transracial adoption. AFTH recognizes the importance or acknowledging the realities of transracial adoption and connecting adoptees to their birth culture.

About Adoptions From The Heart:

Adoptions From The Heart (AFTH) was founded in 1985 by Maxine Chalker, social worker and fellow adoptee. Like many children born and placed for adoption during the 1950s, Maxine grew up with little information about her birth parents. It was Maxine’s dream to give adoption a new face by breaking down the barriers and taking some of the mystery out of the adoption process. AFTH is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide a safe, loving home for children and offer comprehensive, high-quality services to adoptive families, birth parents, and children. The agency is licensed in PA, NJ, DE, CT, VA, and NY.
