Funeral Arrangements Set For Fallen Firefighter Thomas Royds

Royds's viewing will be held Saturday morning in Ardmore. A recessional and final salute to Royds will follow the viewing.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Funeral arrangement for fallen Lower Merion Township firefighter Thomas Royds have been set.

A viewing for Royds, who died after being struck by an alleged drunk driver Saturday on Interstate 76, will be held on Saturday in the Lower Merion High School Auditorium, located at 315 E. Montgomery Ave. in Ardmore.

The public is welcome to attend from 10 a.m. to noon.

Backpacks and large bags are not permitted on Lower Merion School District property.

Parking will not be available for the public at the high school. However, Suburban Square is offering parking with no limitations. Members of the public who wish to attend the viewing should park at Suburban Square and walk to the high school.

The district will also be offering a shuttle from the corner of Montgomery Avenue and Glenn Roads to Lower Merion High School.

Handicapped: Parking will be available in the “B” lot at Lower Merion High School.

Any fire or other emergency service organizations wishing to attend the viewing are asked to send name, company, and address of the company to Melissa Focht of the Lower Merion Township Fire Department at [email protected]. All apparatus must report to Union Fire Association of Lower Merion, 149 Montgomery Ave. in Bala Cynwyd. It is required that all apparatus approach Union Fire from City Ave. Apparatuses will then be directed westbound on Montgomery Avenue to the Lower Merion High School.

Immediately following the viewing, family, friends, firefighters, and other emergency response personnel are invited to participate in a recessional and final salute to Royds.
