Gun Sales Restricted In Lower Merion Under New Ordinance

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Gun sales in Lower Merion Township have been restricted after a board of commissioners meeting last week.

The board voted unanimously Wednesday, April 19 to amend the township's code to prohibit the sale of firearms in certain areas.

Under the new rule, Federal Firearms Licensees are no longer able to use homes as firearm businesses.

The new rule also regulates where firearms can be sold, limiting sales to four commercial areas of the township and banning sales from single-family home zoned areas.

Firearm sales are still permitted in areas that include multi-family home zoning.

And lastly, firearm businesses are not permitted to be established within 1,000 feet of public schools.

This new rule stemmed from concerns over Shot Tec LLC, which offers firearm training and online firearm sales, moved to an area in Bala Cynwyd that led residents to raise concerns.

The business is about a mile from both the Bala Cynwyd middle and elementary schools.
