Lifelong Ardmore Resident Who Served in World War II Dies at 94

Ardmore's Raymond Alfred Cerio, Sr. served in the 308th Engineers Battalion 83rd Division as a Radio Operator during World War II.

ARDMORE, PA -- Raymond Alfred Cerio, Sr a loving, caring father and husband passed away August 5, 2016 at the age of 94. He lived most of his life in Ardmore, Pa.

Born February 1, 1922 in Ardmore, Pa. to Lucia Rose and Gabriele Cerio. He grew up in Ardmore and graduated from Lower Merion High School.

After graduation he joined the US Army, serving in World War II with the 308th Engineers Battalion 83rd Division as a Radio Operator. He installed and operated tactical field radio transmitting and receiving equiptment. He could also transmit and receive International Morse Code. Raymond was Honorably Discharged on December 1, 1945.

Ray was a hard working man, he was a Printer and Pressman for AMP, Inc until he retired at 65. He then began a second career as a Courier for Bryn Mawr Trust, he retired from there at the age of 85.

He enjoyed reading, watching the History Channel and playing a little guitar.

Ray was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Minnie V. (nee DiSabatino) Cerio in September, 2015. He is the father of Raymond A. Cerio, Jr (Linda DiProspero) and George G. Cerio, brother of Victor, Theresa Ferro, Margie Fulcher and the late George, Gabriel, Susan DiRodolpho, and Florence Meoli.

Family and friends may call 9:30 to 10:30 AM Thursday, August 11, in the Funeral Home of John Stretch, 236 E. Eagle Rd, Havertown followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment is in St. Denis Cemetery.
