LMSD Names Acting Superintendent Amid Steven Yanni's Exit

With Superintendent Steven Yanni, Ed.D, leaving for the Central Bucks School District, Megan Shafer has been named acting superintendent.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion School District has chosen its acting superintendent amid Steven Yanni's exit.

The district's board of school directors last week announced Megan Shafer will serve as the acting superintendent as Yanni's replacement is found.

Shafer is the district's Assistant to the Superintendent for District Administration, a role she's held since 2011.

This is not her first time as acting superintendent, as she served as Acting Superintendent of Schools from January to July 2023.

A cum laude graduate of Denison University and the Temple University School of Law, Shafer began her career in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, before moving on to work in labor and employment law and in education law, first at Morgan, Lewis, Bockius LLP and then at Wisler Pearlstine LLP, according to the district.

She served as the district's Director of Human Resources and Senior Director of Policy, Personnel and School Programs prior to assuming her current position.

A local and national search will begin for the district's new superintendent, and Yanni said the search will include "opportunities for stakeholder input and community engagement to inform the qualities and capabilities to be incorporated into the position description and candidate profile."
