Lower Merion Ends Snow Emergency, Sidewalk Snow Removal Required

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The snow emergency declaration in Lower Merion Township is over, but that doesn't mean residents are in the clear yet.

Officials ended the emergency at noon Thursday.

However, drivers are urged to stay off township roads until they are cleared, which will take between 18 and 24 hours after the storm.

The township said major and primary roads will be plowed first, with residential secondary streets to follow.

Driver are cautioned to be on the lookout for icy roads Thursday evening and overnight into Friday.

Residents are also reminded to clear sidewalks. Per the township code, sidewalks must be cleared, 36 inches in width, within 24 hours after the end of snowfall. The official snowfall end time is 6:19 a.m. Thursday. Residents are also asked to clear corner sidewalk ramps to the street, clear snow from around fire hydrants. The township code makes it illegal to throw or plow snow into the street.

Trash and recycling will be collected Thursday and Friday. Rear yard pickups will be collected, but the pathway to the cans must be free of ice and snow. Resident who can bring cans curbside are asked to do so.
