Lower Merion Police Officer Fired, Investigation 'Addressed Integrity'

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion Township Police Committee Wednesday moved to terminate one of its officers.

During the committee meeting before the Board of Commissioner's meeting, Lower Merion Police Superintendent Michael McGrath said the officer in question was found to have violated department policies, procedures, and standards of conduct after an investigation.

McGrath recommended to the police committee that the officer be terminated.

The vote passed 8-4, approving McGrath's recommendation for termination.

While details of the officer's actions were not given, McGrath said the situation "addresses integrity" and said use of force was not a factor in this case.

The Executive Board of Lower Merion FOP Lodge 28, the union representing Lower Merion Police officers, said it anticipates the arbitration proceedings and are confident that the officer member will succeed.

"Your positive thoughts of encouragement for our member and union as a whole, during these challenging times, are appreciated," the union said. "Public support for our lodge is crucial to safeguarding the rights and due process of our exceptional officers."
