Profiling Two Outstanding GET Cafe Employees

A Closer Look at Adam Fuerman and Noah Weir

The Get Cafe in Narberth, Pa., usually hires people with disabilities.

Some of the staff’s disabilities range from learning challenges, others have emotional challenges, some have Autism, some are nearly blind, while others are nonspeaking, slow learners and/or on the Autism Spectrum.

The Get Cafe management recently created The Employee of the Month Honor. One employee each month has his/her favorite drink named after them for that month. During that period, that specific drink comes with a ten percent discount. Another honor that bestows these employees is that they are featured in the Get Cafe Newsletter. So far, the Get Cafe has had two employees of the month, Adam Fuerman and Noah Weir. Unfortunately, the Get Cafe management was unable to release their first two newsletters; therefore, this Patch writer decided to feature them in this story. Here is a look at both of them.

Adam Fuerman

Adam Fuerman was Get Cafe’s first Employee of the Month late summer/early fall.

If you ever saw Adam Fuerman volunteering at the Get Cafe, you would remember him. His radiant smile is so big that even a visually impaired person can see it.

His love for Get, coupled with his affability, permeates throughout the cafe. For possessing these qualities and for his strong work ethic, Mr. Adam Fuerman was chosen to be the Get Cafe’s first Employee of the Month.

“I’m honored,” said Fuerman. 37, of Narberth. “There’s over 40 people (employees and volunteers) and they picked me first.”

Fuerman also works at Whole Foods in Wynnewood.

“I like Get better,” said Fuerman. “At Whole Foods, the customers treat me like an employee, but at Get, they treat me like a person. They say please and thank you.”

In honor of him being employee of the month, his favorite Get Cafe drink - the strawberry-banana smoothie - was called The Adam Drink.

After Fuerman graduated from Pathway School in Norristown, he attended The New York Institute of Technology and graduated from there in 2009.

After he graduated, he was compelled to find work.

“I was isolating in my apartment,” said Fuerman. “I needed to get out.”

His first job was at Trader Joe’s in Wynnewood. He then worked at Whole Foods.

He also lives alone and rarely asks his family for help. He knows that they will always be there for him, yet he enjoys being independent.

Noah Weir

This fall, Noah Weir was the Get Cafe’s second Employee of the Month.

During the month, his favorite drink, apple cider, was called The Noah Drink. For those Get Cafe customers who know Weir of Havertown, they see that he brings great value to the establishment. His mastery of cooking food and making drinks demonstrate his versatility. In addition, his loyalty to Get is quite evident. He started out as a volunteer in the summer of 2019, a few months after the cafe opened. (The Get Cafe’s grand opening was Feb. 14, 2019.) At the time, he was entering his sophomore year at Haverford High School. A few months after he began to volunteer, the Get management was so happy with his work performance that they hired him.

“It was my first paying job,” said Weir.

Over the years, Weir proved to be invaluable. For these reasons, the Get Cafe management picked him as Employee of the Month.

“I’m happy about that,” said Weir, 21. “I love Get.”

In 2019, his mother learned about Get and wanted him to work there.

“I needed to have something constructive to do,” said Weir.

He appreciated that despite his disabilities, the Get management allowed him to learn how and to work the grill, prepare drinks, and operate the cash register.

His disabilities have never kept him from giving 100 percent.

“I do everything here,” said Weir. His success also stems from management trusting him with these vital responsibilities.

One way he learned that Get was a great place for him to work was when he volunteered at New Avenues Cafe in Havertown, which is now out of business. Although the New Avenue staff treated him with respect, he was never-the-less just another volunteer; nothing more - nothing less.

He likes that the Get Cafe staff invest in their employees and volunteers. He said that at Get they are always teaching new things.

“It’s more than a job,” said Weir.

Weir is currently attending Delaware County Community College. He hopes to one day work in a lab/and/or do medicinal research.
