LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The head of the Lower Merion School District is leaving his position to serve as superintendent in a Bucks County school district.

Lower Merion School District Superintendent Steven Yanni, Ed.D, announced he will transition from Lower Merion to the Central Bucks School District, where he will become the superintendent.

Yanni, who lives in Bucks County, said he will maintain his role in Lower Merion through the end of the school year, saying he will support the school board and community during the transition period.

"Together, we have done great work, and I have every confidence in the Board's ability to select a capable and dedicated leader who will build on our shared successes," he said.

A local and national search will begin for the district's new superintendent, and Yanni said the search will include "opportunities for stakeholder input and community engagement to inform the qualities and capabilities to be incorporated into the position description and candidate profile."

The board will hold a special meeting on Monday to discuss the superintendent search.

The district said Yanni and his team remain committed to advancing all initiatives for SY 2024-2025 without delay or interruption. Healthy start times and universal full day kindergarten will both be implemented at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
