Villanova Grad, B-29 Gunner In World War II, Passes Away

The Norristown High School grad was a gunner on a B-29 in World War II. He received degrees from West Chester and Villanova.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- John D. Colizzi, formerly of Norristown John D. Colizzi passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 in St. Mary’s Manor, NJ. He was 90.

John graduated from the Norristown High school and West Chester University class of 1949. He later received a Masters degree in mathematics from Villanova University.

He was a mathematics teacher for almost 40 years and chairman of the mathematics department, for 30 years, at Triton regional high school in Somerdale, New Jersey.

He was a veteran of WWII as a Gunner on a B-29, in the 58th bomber wing division where he flew 13 missions.

He was a loyal and lifetime member of the 58th Bomber Wing division and attended reunions and conventions.

He was born in Norristown on January 2, 1926 was the son of the late Quentino and Filomena (Romano) Colizzi.

He is survived by his sister, Angela Hannigan. Niece Judy Grill. Nephews Frank and Richard Carfagno and Richard Hannigan.

Pre-deceased by a sister Mary Carfagno and nephew William Hannigan. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Thursday, March 10 at 10 AM in Holy Saviour church, Norristown. Burial St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday from 9 to 10 AM at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Villanova University or West Chester University. Funeral arrangements are by the Volpe funeral home. VolpeFH.com, 610–275–2583.
