Harcum College’s Economic Impact Estimated at $60.8 Million

--AICUP Study Says Harcum College Supports and Sustains 821 Jobs --

Bryn Mawr, PA – October 17, 2019 – The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) has released the results of a study that estimates the economic impact of Harcum College on the Pennsylvania economy in 2018 was $60.8 million and 821 jobs.

Economic impact is an objective way to measure the significance of an organization in the regional economy. The study shows that independent colleges and universities such as Harcum make a major contribution to their local, state, and regional economies in the short- and long-term.

The study looked at factors such as direct spending on operations, wages and benefits, and capital projects by Harcum. It also measured the effect of student and visitor spending and the induced effect of increased household income.

A key result of the study is that Harcum supports and sustains 821 jobs throughout the state. This includes direct employment by the College as well as indirect and induced jobs created by supply and equipment vendors, contractors, and jobs created in the community at hotels, restaurants, and retail stores in support of the institution’s faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

The study was conducted by Parker Philips, Inc., a nationally recognized consulting firm specializing in economic impact analysis, which adheres to industry standard methodologies for the higher education sector.
