PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA — Major construction has been completed on a $965,000 project to replace the Route 32 (River Road) bridge over a tributary of the Delaware River in Plumstead Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced on Friday.

Under the project, PennDOT’s contractor replaced the existing 101-year-old single-span concrete slab bridge with a 22-foot-wide reinforced concrete box culvert. A structure-mounted guide rail barrier, as well as an approach guide rail, was installed and painted brown.

In addition, utility relocation, debris removal, and roadway embankment repairs occurred.

After the bridge was damaged by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021, temporary repairs were made to the state highway and the stream bed to reopen the road as quickly as possible for the public. Approximately 2,238 motorists travel over the structure each day.
