Star Student Athletes: Haverford Field Hockey Star Also Masters Music

HAVERFORD-HAVERTOWN, PA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Ella Cait has drive, determination and dedication. She faces all of her daily task with these qualities.

Ella is a student, an athlete and a musician. Whether she is in the classroom or on the field hockey field Ella puts her best foot forward and is always ready to go the extra mile. She is respectful, thoughtful, caring and always volunteering to help any cause.

This is remarkable to me because she is busy! Ella is a member of Merion Mercy Academy's Varsity Field Hockey & PowerHouse (club) teams, she also loves to play CYO basketball and volleyball. She competes in Irish music competitions along the East coast, most recently in Bethlehem Pa. She is a member of a group called The Next Generation which is a group of young aspiring Irish musicians who meet regularly to learn new music and improve their technical skills. Ella regularly attends Irish music sessions. This type of atmosphere is intimidating for a young girl who is surrounded by experienced adults. She holds her head high with her desire to learn. Ella has been taking Traditional Irish Violin lessons since she was 5. She has been given countless opportunities starting at a young age to give back to her community by sharing her musical talent throughout the years. Spring break 2022 was filled with these performances. Ella along with students of the McDade School of Irish Dance traveled the Delaware Valley to spread some Saint Patrick's Day Cheer, from Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, Elwyn School, Manresa Hall, numerous nursing homes and McCauley Convent, just to name a few. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” -Mahatma Gandhi
