Longtime Philly Meteorologist Leaving Action News

Chris Sowers has been delivering weather news to Action News viewers for more than a dozen years. He will soon take his talents to Florida.

PHILADELPHIA — A longtime meteorologist in Philadelphia will be leaving the station after more than a dozen years of delivering weather reports. 6ABC Action News meteorologist Chris Sowers says he will be leaving the station.

"A huge opportunity has presented itself and I will be joining the talented WPTV weather team in West Palm Beach, Florida in October," he said in an online post on social media. WPTV is an NBC affiliate.

Sowers said the decision to leave his longtime employer was "extremely difficult."

"You have no idea how difficult of a decision this was for me," he said. However, he said the opportunity could not be passed up.

"This is an opportunity for me to finally move off of weekends." he said. "I'm excited to work in one of the busiest weather markets in the entire country!"

Sowers said his viewers have become like family to him over the more than 13 years he's been at the station.

"The dungeon segments, the constant updating on social media (even on days off), I hope you can truly see how much you all mean to me, and I hope you will all continue to follow me on my journey," he said.

Sowers said he will be posting more online over the next few weeks.
