Pittsburgh-Area Man Killed Mother, Another Person: Police

HOMESTEAD, PA — A man police brought in for questioning in Tuesday's double homicide here has been charged with killing his mother and a man.

John Malcolm Smith V, 25, of McKeesport, has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide and one count of tampering with evidence, according to court records. He is accused of killing Anotinette Porterfield, 45, of Homestead, and John West, 54, of West Mifflin.

County 911 was notified Tuesday afternoon of shots fired inside a home in the 100 block of West 15th Ave. Homestead police responded and hailed the residence. When they received no response, they asked for assistance from the county SWAT team believing a suspect was inside.

SWAT team members entered the home and found Porterfield and West's bodies.

Police located Smith on Wednesday and questioned him about the killings before charging him with the crimes.

A preliminary hearing date for Smith had not been scheduled as of Thursday morning.

According to court records, Homestead police charged Smith on Monday with burglary, simple assault and criminal mischief.
