PITTSBURGH, PA — The MilkShake Factory, a more than century-old Pittsburgh institution, marked a major milestone this week by awarding its 100th franchise. The achievement was reached just a year after the dessert destination began franchising locations.

MilkShake Factory now has franchises in 15 states. That's a long way from the fourth-generation family business's modest beginnings as a chocolate shop and soda fountain in Lawrenceville.

“Hard work and serving premium products were ingrained in us since we were born,” Dana Edwards Manatos, Milkshake Factory CEO, said in a statement.

“All four generations have worked together, and because of what my great-grandmother taught us through the generations, MilkShake Factory can open the door for hundreds of small business owners across the country.”

According to the MilkShake Factory website, the chain's Pittsburgh locations are located in Oakland, East Liberty, Murrysville, PPG Paints Arena, McCandless, Cranberry, Downtown, Bridgeville and McMurray.
