COVID Hospitalizations Up Despite Decreasing Cases In Delaware County

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Despite a decrease in new coronavirus cases in Delaware County over the past week, the number of people hospitalized due to infections has increased.

The most recent data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health shows a split among the six key coronavirus metrics, as three decreased and three increased over the past week.

Newly confirmed cases went down from 508 to 430.

The county's incidence rate per 100,000 people decreased from 89.6 to 75.9.

The PCR testing positivity rate in the county went down slightly from 10.9 to 10.2.

Average daily COVID-19 specific hospitalizations increased, going up from 13.9 to 15.9.

And average daily COVID-19 patients on ventilators increased, albeit slightly, from 4 to 4.1.

Finally, the percent of hospital emergency room visits due to COVID-like illnesses went up from 1.7 to 1.8, another negligible increase.

To date, Delaware County has had 111,835 confirmed cases and 1,944 coronavirus-related deaths.
