BUCKS COUNTY, PA —With Pennsylvania considered a key battleground state in the Nov. 5 general election, Bucks County is seeing more "red."

After Republicans overtook Democrats in late July, more registered voters are joining the Republican Party.

In late July, the Bucks County Board of Elections reported that Republicans had 277 more registered voters than Democrats.

That marked a change since the 2020 election when Democratic President Joseph Biden beat former President Donald Trump by more than 16,000 votes in Bucks County.

As of Aug. 30, Republicans now have 936 more registered voters than Democrats, according to voter registration data from the Bucks County Board of Elections.

In the registered voter count of 482,362 county residents as of Aug. 30, Republicans have 199,893registered voters while Democrats have 198,957 voters. Other parties have 83,512 registered voters.

Bucks County has 54 municipalities and 304 voting districts.

The increase is taking place as Vice President Kamala Harris replaced Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket and Harris built up her candidacy's momentum with the Democratic National Convention.

Harris and Trump are squaring off in a presidential debate on Tuesday night.

"It’s simple: If every Democrat in Bucks County registers one person to vote and one person to vote by mail, we will win on Nov. 5th election in a big way," the Bucks County Democratic Committee posted on Facebook.

Bensalem Republicans said that during the DNC, 56 Democrats changed their party registrations to Republicans as did 61 Independent voters.

"Over the summer, Bucks County registered Democrats and Independent voters have been changing their registrations to Republican at a record pace, and that last month Bucks County officially became a 'Red County' for the first time in years," Bensalem Republicans posted on Facebook.

The flip for Republicans is quite a turnaround from how Bucks County residents voted in the 2020 presidential election.

Trump, the then-Republican incumbent, lost the state in 2020, winning 27 of the county's 54 municipalities. Biden beat Trump by more than 16,000 votes in Bucks County.

Eight municipalities in Bucks County flipped from red to blue in the most recent election. Just one — Dublin Borough — went from blue to red, uncertified results show.

While registered voters may now favor Republicans, Bucks County has voted for the Democratic presidential candidate in every election after the Bush-Dukakis election in 1988.
