WARWICK, RI — The founder of a Rhode Island standby has died. Edmund Fuller, better known as Ted, founded Gregg's restaurants back in the 1970s. Fuller died Sunday, the owners of the companies said in a statement.

"It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of the patriarch of Gregg's Restaurants and Taverns," the company said. "Since 1972, Ted was dedicated to fulfilling his dream of building the successful restaurant group that is well-known and loved by so many of his fellow Rhode Islanders."

Fuller retired from the company in 2008, but "his influence has continued to be an important part of the company's success," the statement continued. He was incredibly proud of his success in the state.
