Join us as historian and author Christian McBurney describes the interesting world of American privateers who, at the time of the Revolutionary War, preyed on British merchantmen. Some captured British slave ships with African captives on board just before they arrived at their Caribbean Island destinations. By doing so, they strove to advance the cause of independence from Britain through harming Britain’s economy, while also enriching themselves by selling the goods and slaves they captured.
