SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A fire broke out at a South Kingstown auto repair shop Tuesday afternoon, the town's Union Fire Department said. Two other local departments were called in to extinguish the flames at the business on Route 2.

Firefighters from Kingston station were called in to assist the Union department, along with the Exeter water tanker. The flames broke out between the building's roof and ceiling, the department said, and were prevented from further spread by the quick work of the fire crews.

"We thank our mutual aid partners from Kingston and Exeter for assisting in responding to yesterday’s fire, and we commend all firefighters involved for their quick and efficient response," Chief Steven Pinch said.
