NARRAGANSETT, RI — A Massachusetts woman was arrested Tuesday after officials with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) said she led police officers on a chase and rammed into several police vehicles.

Elise Collins, 57, of Attleboro, was charged with assault of a police officer. She was arraigned in her hospital bed, where she was brought in for treatment and evaluation, following the crash.

DEM spokesperson Mike Healey told WPRI Collins was parked illegally on Great Island Rhode, and when a DEM employee asked her to move, she flipped them off and drove away. Environmental police tried to stop her, but then Collins made a U-turn and intentionally rammed her car into the officer's truck, DEM officials said. Collins then backed her car into a Narragansett police cruiser, reversed and hit the cruiser again, police told WPRI 12. Her car caught fire, and a bystander extinguished it.
