Providence Man Charged Following SK Road Rage Incident

State troopers and North Kingstown police stopped Tariq Famogun, 21, and said they found a stolen gun.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A Providence man is facing charges following a road rage incident in South Kingstown Wednesday, according to Rhode Island State Police.

Around 5:30 p.m., South Kingstown police reported that a person in a car brandished a gun. State troopers and North Kingstown police pulled the driver over on Route 4 and found a stolen 9mm handgun inside.

Tariq Famogun, 21, was charged with carrying a stolen gun while committing a crime, using a gun while committing a crime, prohibited possession of a gun, possession of a stolen gun and not having a license or permit for a pistol. South Kingstown police will also charge him with felony assault and disorderly conduct. Famogun will be arraigned in Kent County District Court Thursday and presented as a probation violator.

"This arrest is a testament to Rhode Island's collaborative law enforcement community," State Police Col. James M. Manni said. "With the quick work of officers from South Kingstown, North Kingstown, and our Troopers, we were able to identify and apprehend the suspect shortly after the incident. Most importantly, we were able to seize another illegal firearm."
