RICHMOND, RI — A South County teenager is facing charges after police said he brought a gun to school Wednesday morning.

About 7:40 a.m., School Resource Officer Brock Taylor was at the scene of a minor crash outside the Chariho Career and Technical Center, Richmond police said, when several students said there was a disturbance in the CTC's parking lot. Several male students were fighting in the parking lot and Taylor intervened to try to break it up, police said.

Students involved in the fight told Taylor that one of the boys, 18-year-old Connor Norris, had a gun in the back of his car.

Looking into Norris's car, Taylor saw a long-barreled gun behind the rear hatch, police said. Both Norris and his vehicle were taken back to the Richmond police station for further investigation.

At the station, police searched the vehicle and found a 20-gauge shotgun. Police said Norris was believed to have left it in his vehicle out of carelessness, rather than with malicious intent or for personal protection. The teenager is an avid hunter, police said.
