Romaine Lettuce Linked To E.Coli Outbreak: CDC

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the romaine is linked to an outbreak in several states and Canada.

NARRAGANSETT, RI—Hold the salad at Thanksgiving Dinner, the CDC says. If the lettuce is romaine, don't eat it. If unsure, don't eat it. According to the alert, romaine has been link to an E.coli outbreak in several states and in Canada. Two people in Massachusetts and two people in New Hampshire are among the 32 cases reported so far. No one in Rhode Island became sick, according to the CDC.

The state health department sent this message.

This advice includes all types or uses of romaine lettuce, such as whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and bags and boxes of pre-cut lettuce and salad mixes that contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad.If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine or whether a salad mix contains romaine, do not eat it and throw it away. Wash and sanitize drawers or shelves in refrigerators where romaine was stored. Refrigerator cleaning guidance is available online. Restaurants and retailers should not serve or sell any romaine lettuce, including salads and salad mixes containing romaine.
