South Kingstown Brush Fire Requires 30 Firefighters To Contain

A large brush fire in South Kingstown on Thursday took about three hours to extinguish, Union Fire District Chief Steven Pinch says.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A large brush fire in South Kingstown on Thursday evening took about three hours to extinguish, and 30 firefighters were needed to attack it, according to Union Fire District officials.

Fire Chief Steven Pinch said the Union Fire District of South Kingstown and the Kingston Fire District were called to a two-alarm brush fire around 5:30 p.m. near Old Mountain Field on Kingstown Road. When firefighters arrived, they found flames on the 2-to-3-acre wooded lot.

Fire officials said the lot was inaccessible for fire equipment. Crews stretched lines from near the skate park, which required the efforts of more than two dozen firefighters.

According to fire officials, 30 firefighters and 10 pieces of apparatus were used to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Pinch thanked his firefighters for their quick work at the scene.

"Our crews did a good job of getting out there and containing the fire," he said
