Here are the top three stories today in Hilton Head:

  1. Beaufort County deputies are actively searching for the suspect in an attempted murder that occurred on Monday. According to deputy reports, a 39-year-old man was involved in a shooting that injured one person at the Oyotunjii African Village in nearby Sheldon. The victim was rushed to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  2. Following increased demand for the sport, Hilton Head Island residents will have more options to play pickleball this Fall as the town works to change existing tennis courts into pickleball courts. The town will begin resurfacing tennis courts at Old Schoolhouse Park on Monday, as well as constructing new features to better accommodate pickleball connoisseurs. After the project wraps, there will be six dedicated courts opening in early November. (Subscription: Hilton Head Island Packet)
  3. The nearby Tybee Island Historical Society is seeking help to repair its historic lighthouse originally built in 1773, which is in desperate need of preservation. Last winter, during a routine assessment, it was determined that the lighthouse needed essential repairs to the windows, roof, and masonry, as well as its lens. The repairs are being constructed in three phases and will begin this November and last until June 2024β€”totaling about $1.6 million. (Subscription: Savannah Morning News)
