  1. On Monday Hilton Head Island Airport announced the start of Phase I of its "Terminal Improvements Project"—a nearly $31M renovation project which will modernize and enhance the airport's facilities. Highlights of the project include a new TSA screening checkpoint, new boarding gate areas, new boarding bridges, improvements to pedestrian circulation, and more. The project is expected to last two years and is funded through a combination of grants and funding secured by the local delegation and airport revenue. (Savannah Business Journal)
  2. Earlier this month, the nearby communities of Tybee Island and Savannah began providing beach wheelchairs to make the beaches more accessible to everyone. The cities were able to acquire and introduce fat-tired, floatable beach wheelchairs with the help of Savannah's AMBUCS chapter—a national nonprofit organization that helps inspire mobility and independence for those with disabilities—who contributed nearly $17,000 for the project. Beachgoers who need the chairs can request them, for free, from the city directly, or arrange for drop-offs from the beaches' code enforcement offices. (Connect Savannah)
  3. Hilton Head Island's own Side Hustle Brewing Company took home an award at the annual Great American Beer Festival this week for their "Make it Rain," which earned the bronze medal in the "Juicy or Hazy India Pale Ale" category. Side Hustle won one of 303 medals that were awarded to 263 breweries around the country at the nation’s largest professional beer competition. Their medals are globally acknowledged as a designation of brewing excellence and among the most sought-after accolades within the brewing community. (The Full Pint)
