  1. Three Hilton Head Island firefighters earned an international award for bravery in the line of duty following their valiant rescue effort during a fatal house fire. The International Association of Fire Chiefs awarded the Ben Franklin Award for Valor—the association’s highest honor—for the crew’s performance during a fire in Palmetto Dunes in September 2022 that left one dead. The award honored the crew's heroic endeavors, which have left an indelible mark on the community. (Hilton Head Island Packet)
  2. Governor McMaster will be visiting Hilton Head Island this week, speaking at the 360/40 Celebration community event on Saturday, Aug. 26. The celebration honors the 40th anniversary of the Town's incorporation and the 360th anniversary of the Island's sighting, featuring a diverse array of events held between Aug. 26 and Sep. 16 including picnics, concerts, tours, and more.   3. After the first day of school yesterday, Beaufort County principals provided a list of the top seven things parents should know ahead of the new school year. Principals reminded parents to stay up-to-date with school alerts through the BrightArrow system, get involved in classroom events through parent-teacher organizations, make sure immunization and SNAPCODE registration is correct, and more.
