  1. Over the Labor Day weekend, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division plans to enhance safety by conducting courtesy boat inspections at public boat landings across South Carolina. This will ensure compliance with safety equipment and registration regulations, with officers providing guidance on water safety. While those found non-compliant won't be fined during these inspections, they'll be given a chance to rectify the issues before launching their boats. Beaufort County inspections will take place at Grays Hill Landing, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (SCDNR)
  2. On Hilton Head Island, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to two separate shooting incidents near Marshland Road. The first shooting occurred at Roller's Mobile Home Park, where bullets hit a mobile home and a vehicle, luckily without injuring the six individuals inside. Shortly after, another shooting was reported on Pine Field Road, where a home was damaged by gunfire, luckily the six people inside were again unharmed. Investigators are currently determining whether there is a connection between the two shootings and are seeking information from the public to assist their investigation. (WJCL)
  3. Whitney Richland, the deputy county administrator, has resigned from her position in Beaufort County as of Aug. 18. The resignation follows weeks of speculation and inquiries about her employment status, with sources claiming to have seen her packing up on Aug. 9. The county has declined to provide further details about her departure, which occurs amidst ongoing turmoil within the county, including the termination of the former county administrator and investigations into alleged misconduct involving Richland and others.
