Flash Flood Watch For Franklin Area In Effect Until This Evening

Heavy rain is in the forecast today for the city and other parts of Middle Tennessee.

FRANKLIN, TN — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Franklin and other parts of Middle Tennessee and Alabama, effective until 9 p.m. Friday evening. The weather service is forecasting that showers and thunderstorms will bring heavy amounts of rain to the region, producing 1 to 2 inches of rainfall.

"Localized amounts over 3 inches are possible where rainfall persists longer, or where showers and storms repeatedly track over the same areas," the weather service said Friday morning. Flooding occurred Friday morning in several counties in Middle Tennessee, including Lawrence and Perry counties, according to media reports.

If you're hitting the road today, be careful if you encounter floodwaters in the roadway. The National Weather Service urges motorists to avoid driving through water during flash floods — vehicles can stall and get trapped.
