Ingredients Latest Store Banning Open Carry

Neighborhood grocer won't let holstered customers inside premises.

EAST AUSTIN, TX-- The East Austin grocer Ingredients is the latest business to ban the visible display of guns on its premises.

The state’s so-called “open carry” law took effect Jan. 1, allowing gun owners the ability to walk around in public with their holstered guns on display. It’s their way of asserting their Second Amendment rights, a goal championed largely by GOP lawmakers.

But the list of businesses that don’t care for such displays continues to grow, virtually every day. HEB, Whole Foods, Target, Costco, Randalls and others have previously said they’d opt out of allowing patrons to walk in strapped with guns, for fear of making other customers uncomfortable.

Ingredients is not a retail powerhouse like the aforementioned, but a fixture in East Austin. At 2610 Manor Rd., the little neighborhood store offers area-sourced produce, bulk items and has a playground for the kiddos while parents do the grocery shopping.
