New Bar, Moloko, Inspired By A Clockwork Orange Opens In East Austin

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- Fans of drinking and the classic movie A Clockwork Orange had reason to celebrate this week: A new dive bar, Moloko, has opened in East Austin.

The lounge made its debut on Oct. 26. According to its website, the self-described "rock 'n' roll dive cocktail bar" derives its name to a fictitious drug cocktail imbibed at the Korova Milk Bar by the main characters in the cult classic film directed by Stanley Kubrick.

As for the place itself, it was inspired by the bars owner Charlie Valentine frequented in the ebbing days of the New York City punk rock scene in the early aught years. He also was inspired to carve out a unique, dynamic offering in the city's entertainment district, according to the website.
