New Rock Climbing Facility Gaining Popularity in East Austin

The gym saw 200 rock climbers within an hour of opening.

EAST AUSTIN, TX - A new indoor rock climbing facility is becoming wildly popular in East Austin.

Austin Bouldering Project opened on Nov. 28, and 200 people came to climb within the first hour, Austin Business Journal reported.

The company hadn’t even invested in advertising, but people still heard about the exciting new opening and were eager to check it out. Today, the 50,000-square-foot facility sees about 800 rock climbers a day.

“And it’s just amazing how many people are coming in just for our fitness facilities and yoga classes,” owner Zach Olschwanger told the Austin Business Journal.

The staff plans to see even more climbers as the prepare for the South By Southwest and the X Games.

“We’re entertaining a big climbing competition during South By Southwest,” Olschwanger said. “And our program manager is looking into more programs, especially after-school programs.”

The facility boasts a “fitness gym, yoga room, co-working space, showers and retail area.” It’s located at 979 Springdale Road.
