Eight People Displaced In Two Separate Fires, Including One In South Austin
Later that evening in South Austin, a home in the 400 block of Treys Way also caught fire after an electrical short in the air conditioning. The fire reached the attic area before fire crews were able to extinguish it, officials said. Three people were displaced as a result of that blaze.

Upcoming Austin Beard Competition Promises To Be Hair-Raising Event
The three-day competition is scheduled from September 1-3 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts is expected to draw some 1,000 competitors, HillCountryNews.com reported. It's all for a good cause, benefiting such charities as FarmVet.org, LiveStrong.org, and OutYouth.org, the website reports.

Inmate Dies Day After Being Booked Into Travis County Jail
Dominguez, who was a resident of Austin, had been arrested by the Austin Police Department on June 10 at 7:05 p.m., charged with assault with injury-family violence, according to a sheriff's spokesman.

Human Remains Lead To Arrest Of Two Suspects
Manuel Antonio Rivas, 21, and Isaiah Nearly, 20, were in custody in the Harris County Jail on unrelated charges when they were charged in the murder of Jedediah Humphreys. Police officials said that the trio were involved in a drug deal, and that the victim was shot in the suspects' car. They then dumped his body on Murr Way.

"Thirty more minutes and this could have been a dozen homicide cases," Tom Berg, Harris County First Assistant District Attorney, said in a release.

"It's less about throwing axes and more about hanging out with people and having a good time ... with axes," general manager Earl Ball told Culture Map.
