Hedwig Village Murder: Former Housekeeper's Son Is Charged
In what officials are treating as a premeditated assault, Susberry, who was familiar to Bernard, was let into the house by the victim; Susberry had often picked up salary checks for his mother. According to statements from the police department, Susberry pretended to fall in the house, and then head-butted Bernard when she leaned over him to see if he was OK. Susberry then stabbed Bernard several times and took a few small items from her home before leaving in the victim's red Cadillac.

Houston Official Placed On Leave Pending Bribery Investigation
"I am placing city Public Works and Engineering Director Karun Sreerama on administrative leave with pay, effective today, while I review the entire matter stemming from a federal grand jury indictment naming him as the victim of a bribery scheme," Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a statement.

Kenny Rogers Prepares To Make Final Appearance in Houston Area
That's right, it's Kenny Rogers, and he's scheduled to appear at the Redneck Country Club on August 11, according to the Houston Chronicle. Tickets go on sale on Friday, July 14 at 8 a.m. for members of the club, and the following day for the general public, according to the publication.

Harris County Will Not Join Lawsuit Over Sanctuary City Law
Commissioners of Harris County decided on Tuesday not to join a lawsuit field against the state concerning controversial Senate Bill 4.

SB4, which cracks down on so-called "sanctuary cities," was passed earlier this year and punishes those involved in assisting undocumented immigrants. It authorizes police to ask somebody's immigration status during regular traffic stops and allows for officials to be removed from office for not complying with the law.

Police: Mother Let 11-Year-Old Drive Car Alone
Maria Dejesus Lopez, 25, of the 1900 block of Lillian, reportedly gave her daughter permission to pick up her brother, who is 10 years old. Pasadena police pulled Lopez's daughter over in the 1100 block of Shaver after noticing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Krispy Kreme Offers 80-Cent Dozens This Friday
In celebration of its 80th birthday, Krispy Kreme is offering a deal to all customers on Friday. Customers who buy a dozen doughnuts on Friday will be able to buy a second dozen for 80 cents.

Coe had recently graduated from Terra Vista Middle School, in Lubbock, Texas, and according to KCDB was scheduled to enroll in high school in Houston, where she was planning to move with her family. Coe passed away in Lovington, New Mexico, where she was visiting her father.

Driver Rams Her Car Into Pappas Bar-B-Q Patio
The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. Witnesses said diners in the restaurant hit the ground when the woman's car crashed into the building, and that a man cut the driver of the car from her seatbelt.

Human Remains Lead To Arrest Of Two Suspects
Manuel Antonio Rivas, 21, and Isaiah Nearly, 20, were in custody in the Harris County Jail on unrelated charges when they were charged in the murder of Jedediah Humphreys. Police officials said that the trio were involved in a drug deal, and that the victim was shot in the suspects' car. They then dumped his body on Murr Way.
