Firefighter's Dog Is Shot And Killed In The Heights

Angus, part Irish Wolfhound, was attacked by an unknown assailant on Wednesday morning.

HOUSTON, TX — Dennis Nielsen has no idea why anyone would have wanted to shoot his dog, Angus, a "loyal, athletic, part Irish Wolfhound who loved to play ball" with Nielsen, a captain with the Houston Fire Department, and his kids.

All he knows is that a neighbor got a quick glance on Wednesday morning at the person believed to be the shooter; the suspect was, according to the neighbor, wearing black clothes. The incident occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. at the corner of Tabor and West Patton streets.

Angus would bark at passers-by, according to Nielsen, as reported by the Houston Press.

"That's his job," said Nielsen. "He shouldn't have been shot for that."
