Kenny Rogers Prepares To Make Final Appearance in Houston Area

The music legend, now 78, will take the stage at the Redneck Country Club in August.

HOUSTON, TX — His songs are famous worldwide — "Lucille," "She Believes In Me," "Lady," "The Gambler," to name but a few — and he's sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making his one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Now, as his performing career comes to an end, you've got one final chance to catch the legend live in the Bayou City.

That's right, it's Kenny Rogers, and he's scheduled to appear at the Redneck Country Club on August 11, according to the Houston Chronicle. Tickets go on sale on Friday, July 14 at 8 a.m. for members of the club, and the following day for the general public, according to the publication.

Patch couldn't locate a link on the Redneck Country Club site regarding the show, but a text message from a spokesperson at the venue confirmed the date.

Rogers was born in 1938 and went to school at Wharton Elementary in Montrose. He was one of eight children, and got his start in jazz. The First Edition was next, which soon came to be known as Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Hits followed, then superstardom as a solo act. Indeed, Rogers has charted more than 120 hit singles, an impressive achievement by anyone's standards. Here's how his website puts it:

Rogers has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide. He has charted a record within each of the last seven decades. The first country artist to consistently sell out arenas, Rogers achieved pop superstardom as well — his 28 Billboard Adult Contemporary Top 10's rank him fourth-best of all time among men, trailing only Elton John, Neil Diamond, and Elvis Presley. Rogers has recorded 24 No. 1 hits, 12 No. 1 albums, 25 Top 10 country albums and is the RIAA’s eighth best-selling male solo artist of all time. The Country Music Hall of Fame member has received three GRAMMY® Awards, 11 People's Choice Awards, 19 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards and six Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, among many other accolades.

Rogers had announced that 2016 would be his final touring year, but "The Gambler's Last Tour," as his 2017 show is known, is under way, and takes the performer to a number of cities in the U.S., including Reno, Nev., Biloxi, Miss, and Houston, with an international tour under discussion.
