  1. The Young Professionals of Odessa are looking to have its inaugural leadership symposium on Aug. 25 this year. They hope to be welcoming over 200 attendees throughout the state. The day-long event will feature two keynote speakers, including Gloria Salinas, a very well-known young professional in the local area who played an instrumental role in the success of Frisco EDC and some of the big projects they are working on. The hopes are for this symposium's first year to inspire local professionals to start investing in themselves personally and professionally and "leveling up" leadership in the community. The event will be held at the Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. (Odessa American)
  2. The Texa Tech University football team had a big weekend recruiting as they hosted six potential targets in Texas who may be future Red Raiders. Of the six student-athletes that were in Lubbock this past weekend, Odessa High School's very own Ivan Carreon was among the young men visiting. He verbally committed to the school in 2022. The three-star receiver has also received big school interest from schools such as Purdue, Oklahoma, and UNLV. He also visited Kansas back in November. (Rivals.com - Texas Tech)
  3. Friday night in Midland, a pedestrian was involved in a fatal accident on the 900 block of S. Midkiff Road who was allegedly soliciting money from drivers in the roadway. The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when a truck was towing a fifth-wheel flatbed trailer attempting to make a left turn. While turning, the vehicle and trailer went onto the center median and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian's injuries were sadly fatal, and were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased identity still has not been released. (News West 9)
