Man Accused Of Abducting Lyft Driver During 3 Hour Crime Spree

Deveriq Yell, 19, is charged with aggravated kidnapping, and is being held in the Harris County Jail.

KATY, TX — A 19-year-old man accused of abducting a Lyft driver in January has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, police said. Deveriq Yell is being held in the Harris County Jail with his bond set at $100,000, police said.

He is accused of holding a Lyft driver hostage, and stealing cash, her car and other items, during a crime spree.

Officials said Yell called for a Lyft driver to a home in Katy on Jan. 27. The driver said Yell asked to be taken to an address in Brookshire.

When they got to their destination, the driver said Yell reached over the back seat, forced her into the passenger seat, and took control of her car.

Yell drove to a nearby gas station, and allegedly forced the woman to give him her pin, and stole $100 from her account.

Police said Yell told the woman to tell her husband to meet them at Katy Mills Mall. Yell then forced the woman to drive to her home, where he stole a television and her cell phone.

The woman said she called 911 after Yell drove away in her car. The entire ordeal lasted about three hours, police said.

Yell was found several hours later driving the stolen car in Fort Bend County, and allegedly told police he'd bought the car.

Police arrested Yell and later discovered video footage that showed him using the stolen credit card at an area Walmart.

Police said Yell could face other charges in Fort Bend and Waller counties, KHOU reported.
