Sugar Land Girl Going to the Olympics

Simone Manuel of Sugar Land will be competing in the Olympics.

Sugar Land, TX -- Simone Manuel will be competing in three swimming events in Rio this year: the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle and 4 x 100 meter relay. She won her spot on the U.S. Olympic Swim Team at Olympic Trials in Omaha over the July 4 weekend.

Manuel, who went to Austin High School in Fort Bend County, is considered one of the up and coming swimmers in the 50 meter. In 2013, when Manuel was 17 years old, she became the first U.S. swimmer under 18 to break the 25 second mark in the 50 meter.
