<p>The deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park and The Trustees, in collaboration with Fugitive Productions, is hosting “Pondside Stories,” a new offering of “True Stories Told Live.” Join us for a fabulous evening of storytelling and community! Eight storytellers — several experienced, competition winners along with some local community tellers — will be sharing their stories.</p>
<p>Fugitive Stories brings the craft of true stories told live to audiences in Boston’s western ’burbs. Each night is unique and they never fail to entertain. Hearing a true story in a live performance is fun, moving, and transformative. Fugitive Stories’ evenings intimately reveal what we all have in common, making people feel more human and more alive. You will laugh and sometimes shed a few tears. Every event opens a door to a memory, a new friend, or to your heart. Humanity’s earliest stories were about survival, hope, loss, love, and courage. Today’s stories echo the same themes.</p>
<p>July 10th – The evening’s theme is “Haven”</p>
<p>August 14th – The evening’s theme will be “Road Trip”</p>
<p>September 11th – The evening’s theme will be “Breathless”</p>

<p>Connect with your child this Labor Day and spend the morning at a kiddo-friendly yoga class in the Sculpture Park. This program weaves a rich balance between the imaginative world of the child with the distinct aspects of yoga practice that support mindfulness, self-regulation and joy. Your instructor comes from the teaching team at <a href="https://www.onthematyoga.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">On The Mat Yoga</a> in Concord.</p>
<p>For ages 3-12 with a caregiver. Please bring a water bottle and a mat. The class will meet at the Big Black Hearts sculpture on the South Lawn.</p>
<p>Stay for a while after class to enjoy a picnic (bring your own or grab something on site from Twisted Tree Café) and explore the Sculpture Park.</p>
<p>If it should rain, the program will be in the museum.</p>

Activate your body and mind as a teacher from <a href="https://www.onthematyoga.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">On The Mat Yoga</a> leads vinyasa yoga surrounded by contemporary art and nature. This is a wonderful way for a person who loves the outdoors to exercise.</p>
<p>The class will meet near the two black hearts on the South Lawn. Bring your mat and a water bottle and get ready to Namaste! For ages 13+.</p>
<p>Stay a while after class to enjoy a picnic (bring your own or grab something on site from Twisted Tree Café) and explore the Sculpture Park.</p>

<p>Develop your observation skills and embark on an immersive and mindful journey through nature with <em>Drawing from Nature: A Sketching Series</em>. This course, led by accomplished artist Will Close, will engage your senses and connect you more deeply with nature through the use of nature journaling and field sketching. With a balance of classroom and field time, you will be guided through various foundational techniques designed to strengthen your observation and drawing skills.</p>
<p>Explore the changing colors of the natural world this fall season. All skill levels are welcome. Come for just one session, or build upon your skills throughout the series and attend week after week.</p>
<p>All you will need for this program is a sense of adventure and a creative spirit. All other supplies will be provided including sketch pads, pencils, charcoal, and extra fun art making materials.</p>
<p>This event is for ages 10 and up.</p>
<p>About the Artist:</p>
<p>Will Close is an artist, designer, educator and wildlife tracker who specializes in the intersection of nature, art, design, and teaching. He holds a degree in Fine Art Painting from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and studied wildlife track and sign under Dan Gardoqui and Daniel Hansche. Currently, Will resides in Concord, MA where he maintains an artistic studio practice and is an outdoor education instructor with the Carroll School located in Lincoln, MA. His passion for nature illustration, tracking and sharing it with others, has taken him from the spruce forests of Maine to the Ecuadorian Amazon. Most recently, he was the inaugural artist in residence with North Country Land Trust in North Central Massachusetts and presenter of visual arts at the NorthEastern Wildlife Trackers Conference. <p>Shibori, the elegant forbearer to psychedelic tie-dye, is a Japanese dyeing technique. The term “shibori” comes from the Japanese “shiboru,” meaning “twisted and pressed”. Designs are created by folding, binding, and compressing fabric before submerging it in dye. The manipulation of the fabric from the 2-D plane into a 3-D form prevents the dye from penetrating the internal parts of the fabric clump, yielding organic and geometric patterns.</p>
<p>Students will learn about the indigo dyeing process and will use a mix of traditional and modern shibori methods to create samples to take home. Students are also welcome to bring their own natural fiber garments/fabric to dye.</p>
<p><em>Materials Fee of $30 is included in the tuition fee. It covers dyes, equipment, and fabric. Registered students will receive an email with details and logistics at least one day prior to the workshop.</em></p>
<p>Special Notes &amp; Supplies:</p>
<ul><li>Please bring your own pair of long rubber dish gloves.</li><li>Plastic bags for wet fabric will be available, but please consider bringing your own recycled/reusable ones.</li><li>Indigo dye likes to drip and will stain, so wear appropriate shoes and clothing.</li><li>If you bring your own fabric/garments to dye, please wash them on the hottest setting to prepare them for taking on dye.</li></ul>

<p>Cha is a Maker of Things. She studied Naval Architecture and Comparative Media Studies with a focus on Photography and Film at M.I.T. for a while, was a sailing educator and program director at Courageous Sailing, and has studied Graphic Design, Textiles, Drawing, and Art Education through MassArt’s Continuing Education department. She teaches art to all ages at the deCordova and the Arlington Center for the Arts, including Modern Calligraphy, Shibori, Digital Photography, and Book Binding. Cha is currently the K-8 Art Teacher at Lesley Ellis School in Arlington, Massachusetts. She likes to rock climb and read about trees and has already passed on an affinity for collecting art supplies to her young daughter.</p>
