Join us on the third Wednesday of every month for the San Pedro Jazz Jam at Collage: A Place for Art and Culture. Catch a groove as we play through jazz standards and free jams for two hours of creative improvisation. We have a piano and drum kit, and a house guitar and bass, and welcome all sorts of instruments.

Telling a story is one of the most ancient arts, and a good one still has the capacity to delight and surprise audiences. On this evening storytellers will compete to tell the best true tale in six minutes.

Want to compete? Storytellers receive free admission and should come with a tale they can tell within six minutes. The winner will receive $100, second place gets $50, and third receives two tickets to any Collage concert or event of $20 or less.

Stranger Than Fiction - True Tales of Unlikely Events

Love rock music enough to get out of bed and play it? We’re opening for rock and blues jam sessions on the third Saturday morning of each month. These will be conducted by Mark Warnholtz, who will coach those who would like some practice and instruction for the first hour. After that, the more experienced are welcome to join in and show their chops. We have a house drum kit and a few loaner guitars and basses but ask you to bring your own if you have one or play something else.

The Hot Club of Los Angeles, hailed by Jackson Browne as “an LA treasure”, is a nuevo Django ensemble that showcases eclectic arrangements of gypsy jazz-based instrumentals, vocal numbers sung in French, Roma, Russian and Punjabi, straight ahead jazz repertoire, a unique blend of film music selections, and its gypsy jazz-inspired originals.

Mitch Greenhill is best known for his musical career, which he chronicled in his book “Raised by Musical Mavericks.” He has turned his talents to fiction in his new book “What Goes Around,” a mystery story with a background among touring musicians. The book has gained plaudits from Kirkus Reviews and others - come hear about it and meet the author. A signing will follow the program.
