Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. For the first time in Salt Lake Community College history, as well as in Utah Department of Corrections history, a graduation ceremony was held for the 23 students who graduated with an associate's degree or an academic certificate while incarcerated. As part of the Salt Lake Community College's Prison Education Program, students take classes while doing time to assist with entering the job force when they have served their time and help to promote not returning to prison afterward. There is a lot of support in Utah for the program and using education as a form of reforming for prisoners, learning can be the catalyst needed to help some of these prisoners make better decisions moving forward. 2. The Utah Beer Festival will be going into its 13th straight year with a brand new venue in Salt Lake City that hopes to bring even more fun. Already known as the largest beer sampling event and still expanding, the Utah Beer Festival will be moving its two-day festival to the Granary District to better cater to the large crowd and an extended number of vendors. More than 70 vendors will be pouring over 250 beers as well as six different food trucks and the local Woodbine Food Hall. (ABC4.com)
  3. Daniel Laner Allen is now facing criminal charges after he lit his hospital room on fire in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City back in May. On May 2, Allen used a hospital bed and medical cart to barricade himself in a room and use materials in the room to start a fire, during the incident he said multiple times that he wanted to burn down the entire hospital. Emergency crews were eventually able to take the door off the hinges and extinguish the flames while arresting Allen. The damage to the room costs around $35,000. (KSL.com)
