Police: Pride Flag Burned In Burlington June 1

Police are classifying it as arson, unlawful mischief and a hate-motivated crime.

From the City of Burlington: On June 1st, 2019, at approximately 8:10 AM the Burlington Police Department responded to a report of a Pride Flag that had been burned on the porch of an occupied house on Bright Street.

Officers arrived to find the melted remains of the flag and found that the porch had been
scorched.

It was determined that the incident took place at approximately 4:37 AM on June 1st. Further
investigation revealed a nearby surveillance camera had captured the entire incident.

The surveillance footage showed a lone actor walking directly to the residence and lighting the
flag on fire without hesitation. The suspect then casually walked away from the scene toward
Riverside Avenue.

Police also located video surveillance footage of a person of interest riding a bicycle on
Riverside Avenue headed toward Intervale Road around the time of the crime.

Police are looking to talk to this person as a potential witness to the above crime.
