Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:

  1. According to the Woodstock Police Department, elderly fraud cases have cost Burlington area residents more than $100,000 in just the last couple of weeks. Each case involves a scammer claiming that a family member is in jail and desperately needs cash for bail. Anyone with information about similar scams is being asked to contact the Woodstock Police Department. (WPTZ)
  2. Burlington's park rangers are met with mixed community reactions. The city hired two full-time and two seasonal rangers to assist park visitors during the summer season. Some residents are concerned that the rangers will disproportionately impact homeless people. (WCAX)
  3. The Burlington City Council has approved yet another Burlington Electric rate increase. The decision was made through a unanimous vote. The increase will add 3.9 percent to every resident's electric bill. To help alleviate the increase, Burlington Electric will be providing a 12.5 percent discount for low-income customers.
