Assistance League of Northern Virginia Provides Layette Items

Helping new mothers in need with baby items

At its most recent Monthly Meeting in January Assistance League of Northern Virginia member volunteers organized a Layette Workshop in support of our New Clothing for Kids program. Members assembled 38 layette “bundles” that were later delivered to Inova Cares Clinic in Falls Church, VA, for distribution to low-income mothers of infants. The layettes included hand-made baby afghans and hats as well as other essentials, such as infant clothing and baby board books. A brochure on newborn care, provided by the National Institute of Health, was also included in every layette package.

The Assistance League is thankful for the wonderful ladies at The Virginian Retirement Community in Fairfax who provide the hand-made items included. Assistance League purchases the yarn for a team of knitters who, in turn, create beautiful afghans and hats for newborns and infants in need. These dedicated women provide a genuine service to our organization and to the community. Additionally, the talented seniors feel a sense of belonging and self-worth when giving back to the most vulnerable members of our community.
