Clifton Haunted Trail 2016: Tickets, Background, More

It's one of the more intriguing Halloween-related events in Northern Virginia, and much of it is based on urban legend.

CLIFTON, VA — One of the more interesting and well-produced Halloween-related events takes place Saturday night on a trail in the woods with no flashlights allowed.

It's the annual Clifton Haunted Trail, 7 -10 p.m., and it's scary enough to rattle adults and give parents room for pause when deciding whether to bring along young children.

Seriously spooky skits will be performed along the trail, and it takes about 45 minutes to walk it — in the dark, save for a glow stick.

Organizers point out that the trail is in an area known for spooky tales. Clifton, a small Civil War-era town, originally known as Devereux Station in the 1800s, saw many battles fought near the town, such as in nearby Bull Run. Could some of the historic homes and commercial residences be haunted? Listen to town residents and you just might hear a story about a ghostly sighting.

This brings us to Bunnyman Bridge. The urban legend goes that a man dressed in a bunny suit terrorizes those who come near the “haunted” railroad overpass, aka Bunnyman Bridge in the Fairfax Station/Clifton area. This year, if you dare to visit the trail, you just may see the Bunnyman, as well as roving monsters, zombies, witches, vampires, escaped convicts, the demented and deranged, organizers say.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for those 12 and under. Directions can be found here.
