New Bubble Tea Shop, Yemeni Coffee House Coming To Kamp Washington

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Anyone driving through Kamp Washington in Fairfax City may have noticed some changes in the Westfair Center.

A new sign has been installed for The Alley, which is part of a bubble tea chain with locations across the globe, including California, New York, Texas and Hawaii, according to its website.

On July 28, The Alley Fairfax posted a message on its Instagram account (@thealleyfairfax) about its new location at 11017 Main St.

"This is your sign to get ready for the grand opening of The Alley," the post said. "We promise it won't be too long until then. Follow us and share for more updates!"

On Aug. 6, a Fairfax City inspector approved the commercial tenant build-out of The Alley, but there was no indication about when the shop would be opening.

Westfair Center shoppers will also have an additional place to enjoy a beverage. A sign in the window of the storefront next The Alley reads "Coming Soon Haraz Coffee House."

Founded in Dearborn, Michigan, the Yemeni coffee chain has expanded to 10 locations across the U.S. and plans to open 14 more, including the one in Fairfax, according to the company's website.

"The country of Yemen is unparalleled to any other place on this Earth," the website says. "From its breathtaking scenery to its history that dates back to the beginning of man. Yemen is the homeland of our family. As first-generation immigrants, we wanted to honor our heritage. Yemen is where coffee was invented and later flourished in global trade. Roasting and serving coffee is something that is inclusive of all people and cultures, and brings people together. Our coffee is grown from altitudes over 3,000 feet in a mountainous village called Haraz, where our namesake originates."

Haraz Coffee specializes in serving authentic Yemeni-style drinks, highlighting the influence that Yemeni coffee has on its culture, according to the website.

It's unclear when the new coffee house will open. A commercial tenant build-out application was filed with the City of Fairfax on July 22, but it hasn't been approved yet.
